Migraine RemedyUsually
migraine causes episodes of severe or moderate headache lasting from several
hours to three days. It is often
accompanied by nausea and vomiting and a heightened sensitivity to bright
lights and noise. Some evidence suggests
that migraine pain is one symptom of several due to a disorder of the serotonergic control system. Some are genetically caused, while others are based on hormonal
imbalances. Three quarters of adult migraine patients are female, which reveals
a strong connection to hormonal cycling and hormonal-related causes or
triggers. Hormonal migraine is a result of a lack of protein, or protein
synthesis in the body or a serotonin deficiency. It is our desire to help migraine sufferers
find a solution to their ailment. We
recommend a daily food dairy be kept to find food triggers as well as to note
any deficiencies that may be otherwise overlooked. It is also advised that a regular Omega
supplement be added to balance hormones and thus aid in
alleviating hormonal causative factors.
Our Migraine Remedy includes the following
herbs:
Feverfew—is the best known herb for the
relief of migraine headaches because it inhibits platelet aggregating in the
bloodstream, which prevents blockages of small capillaries. It also has a mild
tranquilizing effect which helps it to significantly reduce pain and alleviate
nausea and light/noise sensitivity which often accompanies migraines. Because it is an anti-inflammatory it works a
lot like ibuprofen does; however, it does not have the side effects that
accompany the NSAID drugs and therefore much safer to take on a regular basis. There
is also some proof that the herb may inhibit chemicals that cause the blood
vessels in your head to spasm.
Bay Leaves--have
many properties which make it useful for treating migraine headaches. They
contain compounds called parthenolides (inhibiting serotonin release
from platelets), which have proven useful in the
treatment of migraines. Bay Leaf also contains eugenol, which has
anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties.
Chamomile--Chamomile stops spasms in the
smooth muscles and contains chemicals that are anti-inflammatory,
antibacterial, antiviral, and antiparasitic.
Peppermint—is an analgesic and pain
reliever. Its smell is known to soothe
and cool the system to aid in migraine relief.
Rosemary--Antioxidant, antiseptic, and
antispasmodic- Rosemary is a key herb in European herbal medicine used to treat
arthritis, baldness, headaches, stomach upset, pains, strains, cuts, scrapes,
and bruises. It is a known reliever in
combination with peppermint as the two stimulate blood circulation aiding in
the healing of migraines.
Skullcap—has been shown to have mild
sedative and antispasmodic actions. Because of its sedative properties,
Skullcap is most commonly used for anxiety, insomnia, pain relief, and tension
headaches.
