A
troublesome issue is the inability to sleep soundly at night. Many get so discouraged with this and run
down physically that they resort to over-the-counter sleep aids and
prescription sedatives. Because these
things typically have numerous side effects that are undesirable, His Grace
Herbals has created a healthy alternative to aid even the insomniac as they
search for deep sleep. We have combined
a variety of herbs, safe for daily use and non-addictive to help you find the
rest you need. We invite you to brew a
cup of our wonderful tasting tea and finally settle in for a great nights rest.
Use
1 heaping tsp. loose tea per 8 oz. cup
of boiled water. Drop the loose tea into
a pot, or use an infuser; Steep for at least 30 minutes for greatest benefit. Drink ˝ hour prior to bed.
One
half pound of tea includes the following herbs:
Catnip—has great
ability to bring about sleep, stimulate the body, settle the stomach and sooth
the nerves.
Passionflower—works as a mild
sedative as it relaxes the body. It is
very calming for high blood pressure and is useful to calm nerves, help with
headaches and relieve insomnia.
Valerian Root—one of the most
powerful herbs used to treat insomnia, its advantage over tranquilizers (such
as Valium and Xanax) is that it reduces the time it normally takes to fall
asleep and limits the lingering drowsiness.
It also does not cause the grogginess the others usually cause the morning
after its use. It is also known for
soothing the digestive system and often prevents cramping associated with
irritable bowel syndrome.
Peppermint—relieves stomach
and bowel spasms while promoting the expelling of gas. It also aids digestion and relaxes the
muscles helping the body to calm down so it is prepared for rest.
Chamomile—Is a mild
sedative that soothes the nervous system while also offering a variety of other
health benefits such as treating allergies, providing help with rheumatism, arthritis
and other swellings. It is very
beneficial for menstrual cramping and other aches and pains.
Oatstraw—is a great
antidepressant (since depression is often a cause of insomnia and sleep
disorders, this is of great benefit). It
is also highly nutritive helping to regulate blood sugar, improving the
digestive system, easing tension and chronic pain. All of this allows the body to relax and
enjoy the rest our bodies need.
